And many more new songs, to complete what I have called my traveling album, as all of the material has been written and recorded by myself in very different circumstances and traits in my life and also recorded in places like my home studio “HappyHill2004” “Music Row Nashville” and my mate’s bedroom and various studios in the UK… so quite different eh! The record is priced at £7.99 in the UK and around $10.00 in the States.  I mixed the album with great care not to use any Gimmicks and as acoustic as is possible, for instance I do double over with electric guitar Banjo and Bass etc… the reason being is that I play them all, (see Below *) so I have to adapt Ha! I’m hard on my own mind sometimes!!  But I still only have two hands and think! I’m Human (nearly) Sometimes I conform, so buy my record and enjoy listening to the way I see the world!

·     * All the other musicians playing are: - on “Pandora’s Box” & “Put Jackson Back on the map” Lee Thomas – Fiddle & Mandolin.  Mike Durham - Lead Guitar.  Mike Joyce – Bass.  Terry Feller – Drums.  Buddy Hyatt – Keys.  Chance (booger) Swoop – Banjo …recorded at   LSI, 27 music squ east, Nashville TN.

·     “Just Wastin’ Away”  Paul Metcalf – Keyboards/drums … recorded at his home in Denton Manchester England

·     Salford Riviera bass & second guitar - Joss Worthington … recorded at Sunny Bank Studios, Ripponden, West Yorkshire, England

·     Papa & Toots Keyboard - Tony Banks … recorded in his own studio in his yard, its called COLD in Droylsden, Manchester, England

·     The rest … Tom Head plays drums on Better World & Red Neck Rag.  (Hickory Smith plays all other)

The words and music for my next album are in my head and half written down, so I will be giving a preview with one of them. I have just written called the muddy waters of the Mississippi; let us hope I can get a few plays on it!  It is dedicated to the man I saw (and many more people) but he was striding through the waters with two kids, he was looking for his wife, who had been up to then, holding on to his hand! But she had, had to let go! He said “now she’s gone” Yeh’ she gone”

I will update this page ASP with more news and links Hickory

This album is a chance for all the artistes, musicians, in the North West, that I have met

during my travels throughout the years, to be heard!  The guys on this album are just a

few of the artistes that I know that have refused to go with the cabaret trend,

and stuck to what they like doing best!  Regardless of money! These are the people

that don’t sing “knock three F’in times” (in 5/4) …JOKE, and “Amarillo

Or How about “ten guitars” I used to have to entertain people! Or they wouldn’t clap! So

After doing forty odd years in a kind of sadistically enjoyable purgatory working clubs!

At last! I can use my time displaying these guys with there talents, and my new

found old self!      The album is now completed, and you can buy it at

Hello I am Hickory Smith, if you have not been on my website or bought my first album “Rollin’ Along”, (see below) then, you probably will know little about me or even how I got here! (Sat writing this) however if you would like to know the details about me and this project, then please let me briefly tell you about the Credits. When I first thought about the idea of OFOTP’s I had this mad vision of this monster that Simon Cowell and others call “The Record Industry”

Taking over everything to do with music and forcing us to listen to what ever the “Industry” churns out!  And I wasn’t far wrong! That was over a year ago! So we fight back, with these amazing one-off recordings of real live guys! With all original music and words!  Thanks to all.

Please Note that 50% of the net profit of this disc is to charity!

Here is the story. About a month ago, early September, I popped down to the local folk night at the Red Lion, Littleborough, and this is where I met my old friends Molly and Dave, “The Pheasant Pluckers” they came to my studio and recorded there two tracks live, It only took them minutes! Molly plays a good guitar and sings and Dave plays a mean banjo, I put the bass track down later. Within the same week Pete Simmons came to the studio “HappyHills2004” and recorded a live session his songs are spiritual, and well worth your ears!  Only two weeks ago while I was still writing the words down for the title track OFOTP, Michael Rothwell who writes and distributes with his brother Mark, the Manchester free press magazine “MAP” Turned up with one of his superb collection of his own sonnets so I recorded him with a 40sec slot orating, “Sonnet to Chalice” I have placed it over the guitar solo in the last version of O,F,O,T,P’s at the end of the album!  The next day Bill Hyde of “Po’Crackers” a friend of mine for more than thirty years turned up along with Ian Reynolds and Paul Cowham, Bill Hyde plays an amazing five string banjo and Ian Reynolds has this quality voice, and plays a very studious guitar! Paul Cowham came struggling in half way through the session begging to use the bathroom to get out of his work gear … I didn’t hardly notice him join us until he started playing …Then all hell let loose He is young and brilliant! They played every track 1st time take! 2hrs Done, I put the bass on later.  Look out for them Po’Crackers.  Today10th Oct 2006, Brian Eastwood arrived with three tracks of his band “Pie” A fabulous three piece, with excellent percussion (Jo Caswell), and original sounds! Brian Eastwood has made his “Bender” guitars, for bands like “Shawaddywaddy” & “Motorhead.”  Boo Long does most of Pie’s song writing!  If you get the chance to see them live, you must go, I will write there   dates on web, along with the others on the album, so keep an eye on my site!

Listen to Brian’s steel playing, this album will grow! Oh I must thank Michael Giddins my favourite local Artiste who is very well known in the Pennine areas for his tiny painting of dwarf like creatures, and accuracy of eye!  Michael hand painted the cover, at the original disc size! Look out for his work! Also I must thank “Tom Head” for drums on O,F,O,T,P Tom is a brilliant percussionist and has worked with bands such as the fall! He is like our resident drummer in Littleborough! And he is also on my album “Rollin’ Along” it consists of 10 of my songs, Put Jackson back on the map” won song of the year in Jackson Tennessee 2006, is also on it

The Album O,F,O,T,P now consists of 20 tracks, and with the exception of “Grand Hornpipe” & “Drowsy Maggie” (both traditional) all of the songs are written and performed by the people named on this album!  See credits!

Pete Bocking is a legend in his own lifetime, having played with “The Hollies” Herman’s hermits & Lonnie Donnegan etc… He is a local guy!  And Fireback Jack (guitar vocalist), has brought me an early copy of Pete and friends, recorded in 1980, it is called  “weavers lament,” Fire back Jack (Ken) is singing lead (he wrote it) Graham Holmes on Tambourine … Frank Butterworth on Washboard, and Big Molly Guitar &Vocals, with Pete Bocking, on lead guitar and Guy on bass! … It is now on this album! Interesting! He was right about the Mills closing down!  So Keep Music Live!  No artistes, no music!
